The history group recently came across a 1947 copy of the Cornish & Devon Granite Masters’ Association Handbook.
An article on St Breward featured images of Fred Colman and Bert Newton taken by George Ellis on 2 October 1946.
Bert is seen using a carborundum saw to cut lengths of granite kerb, while Fred is using a pneumatic hand surfacer to polish small face areas of a memorial stone.
