The DJB Engineering Company was founded in 1973 by David John Brown, a British mechanical engineer. The company was renamed as Artix and the trucks as CAT in 1984 after Caterpillar bought the rights to the designs. After selling the design to Caterpillar, David Brown went on to buy Bedford Trucks from General Motors

The vehicles seen here are 1978 model D350 articulated earth-movers which had a patented six-wheel drive system. Their huge capacity was fully utilised at Stannon Pit in the 1970s and 1980s to transport clay and overburden.
